As the festive season continues, so does a wave of traffic congestion. The usually bustling town of Ondangwa has been transformed into a chaotic maze of vehicles, with motorists spending hours stuck in gridlock. It’s part of the seasonal culture, with most marriages—usually huge events—taking place during this time. Adding to the congestion is New Year shopping and the purchasing of school uniforms and other educational needs. Ondangwa serves as a nerve centre and an important trading hub for villages and smaller settlements. It is also one of the main arteries connecting the populous northern frontier with southern Angolan towns.
