AFTER a three-year pause due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Windhoek Jazz Festival made a triumphant return to the entertainment scene.

The City of Windhoek, in collaboration with its main sponsor, Bank Windhoek, breathed life back into the festival, treating jazz enthusiasts to a night of musical magic on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Windhoek High School’s Vegkop Stadium.

Distinguished dignitaries graced the event, including the esteemed first couple, President Hage Geingob and First Lady Monica Geingos, underscoring the festival’s cultural importance.

According to the City of Windhoek, the festival’s revival was met with resounding success, drawing an impressive crowd of eager music lovers. The event boasted an electrifying lineup of jazz musicians, including the melodious Ésme Songbird, the rhythmic Savannah Afros, the soulful Najah, the dynamic Yesterdaye, the enchanting Suzy Eises, the talented Erna Chimu, and the internationally acclaimed contemporary jazz sensation, Jonathan Butler.

“The festival is significant for the City of Windhoek and its partners because it serves as a powerful marketing tool, promoting the city while showcasing local artists and providing an opportunity for them to connect with international artists, ultimately boosting the local entertainment industry,” said City of Windhoek.

The City of Windhoek extended its heartfelt gratitude to the music enthusiasts who attended, as well as the corporate companies and businesses that lent their sponsorship to make this spectacular event possible, including the media. The support from the community and sponsors, City of Windhoek said, has ensured that the Windhoek Jazz Festival continues to shine as a beacon of music and culture in the city.
