A 31-YEAR-OLD woman is currently receiving treatment at Oshakati Hospital after she was brutally attacked with a knife and a panga by her 32-year-old boyfriend in Omusheshe village.
Oshana Regional Commander Commissioner Naftal Lungameni Sakaria said the incident occurred on Saturday.
“It is alleged that the victim was at home sleeping when the boyfriend entered her room. They started arguing, and the suspect took a knife and a panga and stabbed the victim all over her body, causing multiple injuries,” he said.
He added that the suspect then fled the scene and was arrested on Sunday afternoon.
Sakaria, who condemned such attacks against women, described the incident as unfortunate, expressing concern whenever such incidents occur.
Sakaria stressed that men should learn to respect women and their decisions, emphasizing that women should be in charge of their own bodies, decisions, and lives, and should not be forced to submit to things they do not want.
“So men must desist from taking this kind of action,” he added.
He indicated that the suspect is in jail and is likely to be sentenced to a very long time. The victim is in the hospital, and her life will never be the same again due to the scars and injuries she sustained.
Sakaria urged people to seek help seriously before resorting to such barbaric actions.
The suspect is expected to appear in Oshakati Magistrate’s Court this week.
