World Rabbies day commemorated | nbc



28 September is commemorated as Worlds Rabies Day. Rabies is a vaccine-preventable, zoonotic, viral disease affecting the central nervous system. Domestic dogs are the most common method that rabies is typically transfered to humans. 

The Katutura community joined hands with the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform to launch World Rabies Day, towards developing a safe and conducive environment under the theme “all for one, one health for all”.

This event was held at the UN Plaza in Katutura.

” World Rabies Day is commemorated every year to raise awareness and educate the public and pet owners about the disease , it is a disease that kills animals and people but it is a disease that can also be prevented.

 As the disease progresses, the person may experience delirium, abnormal behaviour, hallucainations, hydrophobia (fear for water) and insomina.

“Rabies in dogs causes about 59 000 deaths in 150 countries mainly in Asia and Africa every year and mostly whom are children under the age of 15”.

Councillor of Katutura Central Constituency Rodman Katjaimo encourages members of community to take responsibility of their pads by making sure they are vaccinated annually to prevent rabies.
