Young Brazilians matches called off

Young Brazilians’ Namibia Premier Football League matches this weekend will not take place, following a car crash involving the Karasburg club en route to Rundu on Friday.

The accident reportedly occurred between Otavi and Grootfontein, and left the team’s coach and one player with serious injuries, while others sustained minor injuries.

Young Brazilians were due to face Julinho Sporting on Saturday and Okakarara Young Warriors on Sunday.

Confirming the developments to The Namibian Sport, NPFL league coordinator Mabos Vries said “we will call off both their matches”.
The accident on Friday is the third such incident to rock the NPFL this season, with one resulting in two fatalities.

Match officials Edmund Smith and Christof Vries died in a car crash on 1 October following weekend assignments.

On 9 October, a group of Tigers players and officials were in an accident on their way back from weekend fixtures in the north, leaving one player in hospital while the others emerged relatively unscathed.
